Hit play, and Pet Names is there in the room with you. In a music landscape increasingly dominated by digital instruments, autotune, and AI, the Maryland-based duo is stripping everything back to their roots: two voices, a guitar, and a bass.
Pet Names’ latest offering, In the Flesh, was recorded live at home—DIY, raw, and vulnerable. Six mics in a wood-paneled ex-office captured the performances. It’s the sound you’ll hear if you see a Pet Names show at a bar, a festival, or in your neighbor’s living room.
The songwriting is as brutally honest as the recordings. Camila (guitar) and Maggie (bass) are young, queer, and recently married (to each other), and can’t help but write about the political attacks they see targeting their communities and friends every day. 6 brand-new tracks open the album and comment on different angles of our country’s escalating tumult—calls to action, sarcastic satire, pensive lamentations, and the importance of caring for each other.
The final 5 tracks will be familiar to fans. The duo re-recorded the songs from their debut EP (Hey Hi Hello, 2025) to highlight the rich essence at the core of the full-band tracks. In the Flesh is a full-body experience that will only be topped by a live show.
